We've stayed in one before - I was petrified of lions getting the children in the night but once it was set up I realised my fears were pretty groundless. So, I was feeling quite chilled about it all until Lurch pointed out to Danny Boy that the last time he went to the place we're booked in at there had been two or three hippos wandering round in the middle of the night. Now I don't know much about hippos but I do know they're the most dangerous animals in Africa.
The other fact I do know, for sure, is that my post childbirth, peri-menopausal bladder will not last the whole night without a trip to the loo. I pointed this out to Lurch who suggested that I get a bottle sorted out for the roof tent. In turn, I advised him that I wasn't a professional 16 year old Bangkok showgirl and that even Avent wouldn't be suitable for my needs. I will have to think of a solution to avoid certain death.

Sounds very exciting! Like the idea od having a raised tent attached to vehicle, though i'd be worried about lions too.

that pic promotes more questions than answers. Is resting on top of the vehicle? Well fixed? Or on poles obstructed by the vehicle? Could snakes not get up there? (oops, sorry. And finally, isn't the doorway big enough for your needs? ;-)
Wow. That puts our camping tales in France into the shade. We use a bucket, when we go camping, but then there aren't many hippos or lions just outside Calais. Could you put a bucket on the roof of the vehicle or is there no exit from the tent onto the vehicle roof? Incontinence pads springs to mind as an option, but that would be a bit yucky.
Incontinence pants! You have no other choice unless you do those pelvic floor exercises big time before you go. You might just last the night then!

Thanks in the mud will be visiting soon too - not worried about lions but now I am worried about snakes cos of you Billy, Lurch said no problems but he didn't look me in the eye. The tent is permanently fixed to the roof and is a metal and canvas structure that acts as a concertina, you pull it over to put it up and pull it back to put it down, very easy really.
Rosiero I'm going camping with my friend to the Isle of Wight soon, will be a lot easier. I think your bucket idea is the best but I may have to keep it in the tent. MOB I absolutely can't imagine waking up with USED incontinence pads on, that's more out of nappies than out of Africa and my pelvic floor is shot.
Just try not to kick the bucket over (especially if it is IN the tent!!) but pouring it over the lions and hippos may keep them away.

Urgh I wouldn't like to be anywhere near that hippo's gob. Sorry to hear about the quiet house move situation (we might not have to go now).
It sounds like you are going to have a great holiday! Yes, a bucket or old fashioned chamber pot (if you can find one) sounds like the only answer to your little problem. Best of luck with that, then. You'll have plenty of blogging material by the time you get back!
